Why Its Ok To Care What Other People Think

Have you ever thought to yourself..

"I wish I didn't care so much about what other people think?"

I definitely have.

If you’re anything like me, then you’ll know full well how it feels to have a constant want to people please.

Is there anything wrong with this?

If you’re anything like me, then you’ll know full well how it feels to have a constant want to people please.

Is there anything wrong with this?

Not from where I’m standing..

So, where do we draw the line? At what point does people pleasing and caring about what other people think become more of a hindrance, rather than something we can proudly lay claim too?

For me it all comes down to priorities.

It’s completely normal and natural to care what others think to some degree. Nobody that I know, genuinely enjoys being disliked.

This is why you mustn’t become down on yourself for doing so. Or feel that you’re somehow showing weakness.

I care about what every one of you thinks. I genuinely do.

As I mentioned before, it comes down to priorities.

Prioritising your own thoughts & beliefs.

When faced with a situation when we find ourselves concerned over what someone else may think, how do we ask ourselves the question..

“What do I think?”

This simple act of just taking a moment to acknowledge your own thoughts, is what makes caring about what other people think, say or do, so much easier to handle.

Just last week, I ran into one of my first ever “trolls” on an Instagram post I did.

Claiming my post was stupid, and off the mark.

It stung a little, I’ll admit.

However once I reminded myself of why I posted it, and who I was hoping to add value to by posting it, it made the “troll”, that little bit easier to deal with.

For me it comes down to knowing your why.

Why do you want to wear that outfit?

Why do you want to spend your free time doing a specific thing?

Why do you want to not necessarily indulge in the chocolates laid out at work? Or only have 1 or 2 drinks at the bar?

Why do you want these things for you?

I don’t think I’d ever want to be the person who simply doesn’t care what others think.

However, I do want to be the person who knows what I think, and when those reasons make sense to me and align with what I believe is right, then I’ll always be able to take on the thoughts & opinions of others, but never allow them to ultimately dictate my own actions.

So this week I encourage you to simply ask yourself what you think. Ask yourself what your reasons & motives are behind something.

I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn’t feel it could truly add some value to your day and week.
